Brenta braking-THE BASICS

The Brenta brand by Frenotecnica s.r.l., officially distributed in Australia by Woody's Bike Bits Pty Ltd, is designed to evolve to an ever increasing performance level by utilising premium friction materials combined with the highest levels of technical processes and formulations. Highly advanced design methods and technically advanced machinery are used alongside strict quality control procedures approved and monitored by the world renowned German TuV safety accreditation system.

The Brenta brand is synonymous with the use of innovative materials, processes and production methods to raise quality and performance delivery. These advancements are applied to the finished article which is then taken to the pinnacle of development.

MOTION INTO HEAT To slow and stop a motorcycle the braking system has to convert the kinetic energy (force of motion) of the vehicle into heat in the brake disc. The faster the build up of heat into the disc, and the faster the dissapation of that heat, the more efficient the system. This transfer of energy has to occur in a predictable way across a wide range of situations from lightly tapping the lever to a full on constant squeeze whilst descending a long mountain pass.

SPEED MATTERS The kinetic energy, or heat, grows expotentially as speed increases, if you double your speed the kinetic energy created is quadrupled!

CHOOSING BRAKE PADS A brake pad has a comfort zone of operation which is framed by the temperature range in which the pad is most effective. A great brake pad is a compound of individual materials, each of these elements should be effective at providing friction at a given temperature range. As one material's effectiveness begins to wane another will transition into performance, all this without the rider feeling any difference in operation at the lever. When the last of these materials moves outside of it's ideal temperature you can begin to experience 'brake fade'.


  • Continuous and controlled friction from cold to hot temperatues in both the dry and wet
  • Stability of friction material under high pressure, and the quality of bonding to the backing plate
  • Quality of thermal barrier between the pad and the hydraulic system

  • An evenly distributed and appropriately fine metallic content for sintered pads

Certifications for organic and sintered brake pads

Frenotecnica, the company behind the trademark Brenta, has been certified for more than 15 years in accordance with ISO 9001:2008. In addition, for all of its organic and sintered brake pads it has KBA ABE certifications issued by TuV Germany. KBA/TuV testing is strongly associated with the automotive sector and their brake pads are tested for qualatitive and technical characteristics.

How are the brake pads tested?

TuV Germany have developed several technical tests in its' laboratories and these were applied for direct verification upon Italian racetracks. Different models of motorcycle and brake pads were used and every one met the criteria required for both safety and the performance of the friction material.This means that these materials adhere to rigorously applied parameters thus permitting these materials to be released onto the commercial German market. The entire operation is overseen by a third institution which gives a specific code (ABE) to show the obtained certification (61244).

ISO 9001 Certification

ECE R 90 Certification

Frenotecnica s.r.l. are one of very few companies to have adopted the ECE R 90 product certification in the motorcycle sector. R90 requires braking materials to be tested for speed sensitivity and cold performance, and they are permitted to deviate from the frictional charateristics of their original equipment counterparts by no more than 15%. In addition R90 requires tamper proof sealed packaging for replacement brake materials.

Type approval to R90 is required for all replacement brake materials throughout the EU and in non-European countries that have adopted ECE regulations.
